it's more than Hollywood, though. we're talking here about a global network of people in movies, arts and academia that are protecting a rapist. no wonder he roamed free for so long.

What emotive claptrap! You now feel obliged to boycott Cruz for expressing her opinion? What a very weird response! She, like the other 700 (and counting), is signing because she, like me, probably dislikes the witch hunt that is taking place. You presumably believe in justice? Well, why not discover the facts of the case first? You'd learn that the prosecution and defence lawyers back in 1978 succeeded in having the judge REMOVED from the case due to misconduct. That's how corrupt the system used to be. And now, this arrest, it's all politically motivated. The US had ample opportunity for 32 (THIRTY-TWO nota bene!) years to have Polanski arrested, yet didn't, or wasn't bothered. So why now? Do you honestly believe it's for altruistic motives? Or maybe it's because the LA judicial system is riled over the success of Wanted and Desired and is out for revenge, not justice? Plus a little bit of humility from the Swiss to get back into the US's good books. Polanski is merely cannon fodder for American hypocrisy.

If it's "emotive claptrap" then I suffer from it too.

Perhaps Penelope hasn't seen the transcript of the victim's testimony. Perhaps she doesn't realize Polanski manipulated, isolated, drugged and raped a child who repeatedly said "no" but felt virtually powerless to resist him. He then cynically allowed his lawyers to virtually accuse her of seducing him! - citing her previous sexual experience. What a DESPICABLE act. Then he fled an incredibly lenient verdict! Having learned the truth of this, I will never have an iota of respect for this cowardly criminal. I could care less what he's done since, and Penelope? Welcome to la-la-land, girl. Hope you find your way out.
