culturekitchen: It's the end of the world as we know it

Great post Blogdiva. It's a reminder, to those of us who do remember blogging from the 'early days' what an echo-chamber the blogosphere can really be. This tea-bagging/tcot "movement," if you can call it that, is some of the more mean-spirited stuff I've seen in a while.

These days, I don't think it's my place to pass judgment on where other people are coming from, but I'd argue that LGF's editorial slant has tended much more towards moderation for some time now, perhaps since around the U.S. presidential election.

I guess that was what triggered my initial frustration with some of the community's rhetoric -- I didn't feel that it accurately represented what I knew of *Charles* and that he was countenancing it because who wants to alienate their thousands of fans?

I've been thinking a lot these days about what value there is from those of us who have such long memories. Are we doing enough to share the lessons we've learned, or to provide our insights? I look at stupidity like the #amazonfail pile-on and it seems like we're just repeating a lot of errors that we'd be able to avoid if we learned from the experiences of those of us who've been slogging it out for a decade.

Or I'm just becoming even more of a curmudgeonly old man. :)

p.s. Is it just me, or is it kind of impossible to understand the layout of the Disqus thread here? The "like/report/reply/more" links add so much cruft that I feel like I can't read the rest of the comments. Maybe it's just me.
